SD Play Time

On our "off time" from wedding events, we were able to squeeze in a trip up to Silver City to play on the ATV's and enjoy the Black Hills. Here's Kai "driving" one of the jeeps! Grandpa and Kai seemed bonded on this trip. Kai was already starting to grasp some words at home (like pa-pa for Papa Don, pa-p for puppy, and out for Scout)....although they don't always sound like the word, we know what he's referring to. Kai caught on to "gran-pa" this weekend and would point at him as he walked through the room. It was so cute. Grandpa Craig feeding Kai to help keep him quiet during the wedding! While in SD we visited a 2nd hand shop and found a great new toy for Kai....it's a walk-behind toy to help Kai learn to walk. We had been thinking about getting something similar and thought he'd be able to use it soon.....well, not soon enough. Kai got behind that thing and took off on his own! He surprised all of us! So now he's really into walking behind it and walking holding your hands. It won't be long ...........

Wedding fun

Our friends Steph and Kelly tied the knot this weekend in SD. We made the trek back to be a part of all the events. It was outdoors in Spearfish Canyon at a beautiful cabin. There was a "Luau" theme and I "attempted" the matron of honor duties. I delivered a speech which I intended on keeping very light to avoid emotions....although cried anyway.
Here's me and the bride on the Big Day.

Me and the hubby both "lei'd!"

Little man had an aloha shirt and a lei too!

The bride and groom at their rehearsal dinner. A very yummy Chophouse Whiskey Bar in Spearfish. The best steak ever Derrick claims.

Derrick and I living up the Luau theme!

It was a great wedding. I was honored to be a part of it. Congrats Kelly and Steph!

Flannel Man

The weather this past weekend was incredibly cold here for August. It rained all day Friday, Saturday and most of Sunday. But it was a great excuse to break out the cute fall outfits! This flannel shirt was given to Kai by my Aunt Bridget, who is an expert 2nd-hand shopper. We love the lumberjack look!

Bathroom

I caught Kai in my bathroom today. He LOVES the bathroom.....the shower is cool, opening the cupboards is cool, the toilet is really cool, he likes to weigh himself and he's now discovered the toilet paper!!!!! We better get into the habit of shutting the bathroom doors or I will have DAILY surprises to clean!
Busted in the shower and retreating to play and pound on top of the toilet.

2 Bottom Teeth

Yes, it's official. We have 2 teeth on the bottom now! They are so white, pearly and beautiful. We want them to STAY this way! So we've been starting to "brush" every day (forming the habit)......Kai likes it when he gets my toothpaste on his lips instead of just brushing dry! One more thing we can do together! I'll try to post a pic when they are big enough to see.

Old becoming New again

Some friends from the camp are downsizing to move here for the winter (yeah!) They have a little girl, Emma, who's almost 4 yrs. old and the cutest thing ever. They were so generous to give Kai some old, but new toys! He's absolutely entertained with this rocking horse we've named "Bucky." (Yes, just like the little Bucky I had growing up). When I'm holding him and we walk into the room, he leans towards the rocking horse so much he almost flips out of my hands. That's his newest way of letting us know he acknowledges something/someone or simply wants it! He does the same thing when he sees Scout or when Daddy gets home from work! I'm trying to teach him to "pet" the horse gently and to make the "neigh" noise for horses. He can already point out the horses eyes! Poking them NOT so gently.
Emma also gave Kai some Duplo blocks.......he is slowly tasting each one to make sure they are "li-git!" He started taking them out of the tub one- by-one, but now he has resorted to dumping the whole thing out. My next trick is to teach him to throw them BACK into the tub to help mommy clean up....we'll get there eventually.
Just too cute to leave out.

80's Luau

Our friends Kevin and Becky have an annual 80's Luau every summer. It's a family event in the backyard.....including (but certainly not limited to)volleyball, boccerball tournaments, hacky sak, food, and lots of chit-chatting, etc.
This is Kai's friend, Emily. She is about 1.5 months older than Kai. They were so sweet together at the Luau. She sat behind him patting his back and feeling his hair and they shared the wiffle ball Kai is holding.
Could this be the beginnings of Kai attracting cute girls???
How sweet is that????

Recently.....

Always "jamming tunes" with Daddy on their days together! Not sure what we call this look yet? I mentioned he liked the wheels on Daddy's skateboard! Not joking.
