Sick with good spirits

Kai has been extremely "snotty" this week with a cold and now has a plugged tear duct causing loads of yellow "goo" in his eyelashes. Poor little guy! He'll pull through! His most recent past times include stuffing his WHOLE fist in his mouth (and by gosh, he's almost got it) and then chomping on this fist so that I can here his bones rub together (gross, really). He also will wind up to a full scream while extending his arms with fists straight down at this sides. It's a vision for Derrick and I of what a temper-tantrum will entail in the future!

His food introductions continue to go well. We're up to 3 veggies and 2 fruits and growing. We're starting to explore trying to feed him away from home...like at camp meals. All's well so far. It'll be easier once he masters sitting up so we can actually use a resturant-style highchair.

Anyway, pretty mundane with the little guy so snotty. Check back next week.

quality mom and dad

Our church has started a 'Focus on your Family' series for the next 6 weeks zeroing in on God's purpose for parenting and how we go about fulfilling that purpose. Derrick and I are excited for the challenges it may bring.....as we have been "winging" this parenting thing thus far! Or at least that's how it feels. My favorite verse so far is Deut. 6:5-7 saying,

"Love the Lord you God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up."

With a family focus in mind or if you have children, "chew" on that awhile. It's guarenteed to intrigue areas in which we as parents can do better at enjoying and admonishing our children in sight of our Lord Jesus and what He's done for us.

Food face....amongst other faces

If only we lived down south and cereal came in sweet potato flavor! Kai's "in-business" with solid foods. However, now that he's had a taste of sweet potatoes he's decided to do away with cereal! Mom is working on a new flavor for that old, yucky cereal! We literally get a gag and a shiver with the first bite of rice cereal. Pretty funny. You'd think we gave the kid a Sour Patch Kid! My new favorite pics come from his high chair! So you'll probably see quite a few of those on here with the latest rainbow of foods smeared across his face.

Who needs words when you have every facial expression in the book! We get quite the expressions with food and toys lately, the happy, bored, and ugly faces!
