A quick 5 to get it done

1. Just feel the need to get something up here to look at before I completely lose my audience. These socks the kids are wearing started out as a small square of material in a package. But after placing them in water they turned into the coolest socks these munchkins have ever seen! The toes of the socks each have a different animal face. Eli makes the frog sound every time he'd like to wear them (actually more like a growl that starts with an "r")! A simple hit in our house! 2. I started another part time job this week. It's been in the works since the beginning of December so it's nice to get it finally rolling. It's a grant program run through the YMCA for prevention of childhood obesity. It's not a weight loss program but a behavior modification for lasting changes. I'm teaching nutrition and mind theory, which translates to refined and unrefined foods, fats and sugars, label reading, meal planning, self esteem, appropriate goals and rewards for kids, internal and external triggers for overeating, being a parental role model, etc etc. The families I'm working with are pretty stellar and I'm so pumped to see them making such a sacrifice to make healthy lifestyle changes together! I think we're all going to get something out of our sessions! 3. Who likes to pack and move? If ANYONE answered yes or even maybe to that question I may just enroll your help very soon! Our landlord is selling the home we are renting so we will be in transition again to renting/buying in the upcoming months. Since we found out in Nov. I've been praying not to have to move in Feb. Thank you Lord, I think that that one has been answered by the looks of it. I'm not looking too forward to the packing/unpacking process but it does mean automatic spring cleaning will take place (trying to cover all the positives here). 4. Addie is potty training. I don't do the "do it in a few days" method, although I really should reconsider. Addie takes 3 steps forward and 2 steps back. She does love her 1 skittle for going #1 and 2 skittles for going #2. So something about the incentives are working for her. The other day when she finished she proudly yelled to Kai "Kai I did a #3!" I believe that to be the influence of their father. 5. A few weeks ago Kai endured a traumatic injury in Walmart. He was walking along side the cart with me as Eli was swiping cans off the shelves through the narrow isles. Kai graciously bent to help pick up the cans Eli knocked off the shelves when he let out a bloody murder scream (it was somewhere between little girl opera and hot fire scream--not sure if you are catching the volume of this cry). It was LOUD. He got his thumb nail smashed by a huge can of beans. I was red and plump and completely black and blue within minutes. It was bad. I HAD to finish my shopping. It was one of those instances when you had to make something for the next day, didn't have another time to shop, didn't have a husband available so you could quickly get it done-kinda shopping trip. So Kai screamed 30 mins. through the experience...poor kid. The Walmart guy even showered him with a balloon, lollipop and stickers....but it didn't help. Days later we tried to perform our own surgery (with the help of Doctor Grandpa) to release pressure under his nail but it was unsuccessful. Finally this week his nail is getting a little loose. We've come to grips with the fact it will fall off and then the plan is to place it under his pillow for the "nail fairy." This kid was not made for tragedy. We are relaxing this afternoon with the beginnings of a cold for mom....welcome to a winter weekend huh?! Until next time.......
