Need for Celebration!
We are proud parents of a very healthy boy! Kai's 2 month doctor's appointment was a relief as well as a celebration point for us newbee-parents. He has grown like a weed since our last visit. He is now 9.5 pounds (last Friday, which means 10 or more now), 21 inches long, and his head circumference has grown 3 inches since birth. The Dr. was impressed. His growth chart is between the 5th and 10th percentile for term babies and if she adjusts his age for being premie, he is above the 50th for everything!!! Go Kai! He was a brave soul on the visit also....getting 3 shots and a very yucky tasting medicine. Only a brief outburst of pain!!!! His oxygen saturations were around 97% which means his lungs are getting very strong!
So to celebrate Kai's progress....we joined family in Breckenridge for the night! It was a well-needed get-away from the house and is an excellent place to kick back! Although we kept on our toes with SEVERAL exhilerating games of Catch Phrase! If you were a fly on the wall, you would've thought we were playing the OUTBURST game!
In other news (and to avoid a ridiculous amount of posts from the same day), we cut our first family Christmas tree. Kai is becoming quite mobile in his many slings as you can see!! He even stayed in one of them to help me decorate the tree also....not good for the back!
AND, last but not least, here's a couple shots of me playing "Anne Geddes baby" with Kai while he's naked!!!! Fun for him! Next time I'll try to dress him up for the shots! Enjoy!
Thankful Thanksgiving!
I am so grateful for good friends to spend Turkey Day with. Funny thing is, Derrick and I have spent Thanksgiving without our families before, however it never crossed our mind to cook our own turkey then. We were fine with pre-baked ham. The thought has always seemed overwhelming (however, we still kept a "how hard could it really be" attitude towards cooking one).....well, there's a different spin to that lax-attitude and our everyday procrastination when you invite guests over to your own home. We thought about the turkey the day before it needed to be cooked and on the table. Derrick thought we could just go to the store and buy a "cooked" one and I thought I'd just look it up on the internet......well, long story short, Mike (one of our guests) offered to take over that job. The turkey was great, seasoned, cooked and on the table when it should be! This is Crystal and Kai on Turkey Day.

Family Shots!
Kai's time away from home!
Although I gets lots of quality time at home, I have managed to get out more than ever before. I've hit the dog park with Scout and skate park with Daddy, gone for walks in the stoller with Mommy, spent a couple of evenings at Grandpa and Grandma Unrein's, gone to playgroup for quality baby time with my friends Taylor, Zane, and Emily, and have taken several car rides to places I'm not allowed to go inside, like Walmart and Safeway. Other than that I still eat, make faces, and sleep most of the time. I can hold my head up pretty good when you hold me upright or when I burp sitting upright. Now I weigh over 8 pounds! My premie clothes don't fit me anymore! That makes mom sad.

Kai becoming "comfy" at home!
Kai has now been HOME about 1 month! He is 6 weeks old! Seems unreal. Time is flying by us. He's been such a champ right from the get-go! He was born at 5 pounds and 18 1/2 inches long and 6 weeks early! Now that we've hit his ETA (Estimated Time of Arrival which was Nov. 7) he is somewhere between 8-9 pounds. He continues to love bathes and is becoming much more vocal than before (fun for mom and dad). Being in a hospital cubicle and confined to home, mom and Kai have started to become somewhat "stir-crazy!" We are finally becoming somewhat more social. We get out for appointments, play group, and the occassional errand trip to all the drive-thru's. We've had lots of great visitors and meals from friends and family! We started out implementing a strict "handwashing policy," however, even that has become more lax. We look forward to the day Kai become completely "wireless." Prayerfully his home oxygen will come OFF for good next Thursday! Until then.......
